Media: A Strong Weapon of Modern Times

In today's world media both print and television have become so strong that everything is under its scanner. Any small thing that is happening in the world every moment is being transmitted to the public through television as Breaking News. This has bad effect and good effect too. Rulers of the countries always try to suppress the media to keep their misdeeds under the carpet. But the role of a responsible media is to unearth it. Sometimes the reporters are faced with serious consequences. In spite of all the odds, the journalists try to unveil the truth of the events creating public awareness. Sometimes the result is very good and there are a number of instances when the miscreants became compelled to resign or faced legal proceedings. Although it is also true that the media barons worked for any articular group or politicians causing hardship to general people.

  1. Admittedly, in an exemplary democratic nation like ours, media’s presence is commendable enough. Media in all forms guide us as friend, philosopher and guide - pioneer. The ever innovative media in this age of globalization leave no stones unturned in delving the true face of the country. They are the builder of public opinion and serve as spokespersons on behalf of the public.

But politicization of media is also not uncommon. Political party-run media are biased and help build detracted public opinion injuring the genuineness of thought and action. Media may be termed as a strong arm of the public but the transparency in running its activities is not undoubtedly acceptable. Media also promote and instigate provocative public clamour. In addition, media’s role varies depending on the principle of a socialist country like China where media’s power is restricted tremendously.
